0600 Sleep was a little broken but at least I slept until about 6 am. Feeling a bit stiff but could be worse, considering yesterdays walk.

0730 Breakfast. Talked to Australian family on next table. They’ve been here a couple of days and are heading to Paris next. I would normally be anxious about talking to people I didn’t know, but here when I hear an Australian or English accent it feels like a relief to engage a little bit.

0840 I feel up for a bit of a walk today so I decide to walk to another funicular railway. Should take about 50 min.

Water in the lake is so clear I see a small school of fish.

Current temp 15 degrees. Clear and still.

A bit of a climb at first but ok.

Walking along path with small butterflies fly all around.

Lots of high altitude planes overhead.

So busy enjoying the scenery I miss a turn off. But soon back on track.

Birdsong.

0930 Downhill now.

0950 Arrive Mouttas Muragl. Distance tracked at 3.8 km, 101m up and 147m down.

The next train is at 1015. Time for a rest and cool down.

1000 Getting really busy so I head inside and there’s a train ready to go. I jump on board.

1012 Arrive. Wow! That was steep and a little bit unnerving when you look down. I had wondered if another mountain viewpoint would be worth it, but it is! Spectacular views all around.

There is a sign for a path to go to the very top. Should take 90 min with elevation 110m. I am tempted but I really want to do other things this afternoon and this current level is already serving mountain greatness. Also, at this altitude, I know even 100m elevation will be tough for me. I decide to hang out here a bit instead.

The free travel pass I was given at check in has been great because all of the funicular and cable cars were included.

1120 There’s a self service café so I grab morning tea and manage some fractured German to order. I get the nusstorte; the local specialty. Delicious.

1200 Time to head down. The next train is as 1215 (I think I’ve got it right this time). I’m one of the first so I could get at the end facing down but I don’t think I would like that.

1215 Depart.

1224 Arrive.

1227 I start the walk back to the hotel. I’m aiming for roughly the same walk with maybe a slight variation. Because I’ve already walked this path I decide to leave my camera in my backpack and focus more on the experience going back.

1246 At a crossroad. If I head to Lej da Staz it will be flatter and different scenery but less forest. So I decide to return the way I came even though it will be tough at first.

1257 Not quite at the top, I find a nice rock to sit and rest on to catch my breath.

1310 I think I’m at the top. Phew!

1315 I come to a junction and decide to take the shorter route. My map shows it passing a curious rectangular object. Further i along I discover that to be a firing range with warning signs. Um, no. I won’t go that way thanks.

1400 Arrive hotel.

1432 After uploading photos and generally resting, I have a shower to feel clean again.

1448 I put in my sneakers to go out and I can feel a blister on my left foot. Ouch!

1451 I set out. I want to visit the main part of St Moritz and look in a few shops (not the fancy ones). It's becoming overcast but no indication of rain. Wouldn't matter if I got wet anyway.

1504 To get to the main street you go up a long series of undercover escalators in the same building as the design gallery.

1544 I'm hungry so I try to find a roll to take away. But this is St Moritz and it's mainly high end shops. I end up in the Coop supermarket. When I come out it has started to rain. I hope it's only going to be light but then the thunder and lightning start. Weather app says isolated thunder storms, so I hope it will pass. Otherwise I'll need to find a taxi or get drenched. I think of buying another umbrella but it's windy and I don't think that will help. Luckily I find some cover so I can eat my roll.

1551 I remember that the escalators connect to a car park that connects to the train station. That should be a way to get most of the way undercover. I've always got tomorrow morning for gift shopping.

1557 I make it to the station without getting too wet and it does seem to be stopping.

1604 There's a mini mart at the station so I grab some snacks before attempting the next part.

1611 I make it back to the hotel without really getting wet.

1655 More thunder, lightening and rain. Nice to be inside watching it pass. I spend time working on my blog.

1847 I've finished editing all the photos from the last two days and one blog entry. But I'm stiff now from crouching over. Another thunderstorm passes over and it's really bucketing down. Will just watch some TV or YouTube (or the storm) now and get and earlyish night.

1901 I hadn't noticed before but all the church bells chime at 7pm.

2125 Time for bed.
